Christmas Tree 2010

Since this holiday season we are temporarily living in my parent’s retirement home, we decided to get an 8″ tree because of the high ceilings in their great room.  I don’t have very many ornaments to start with, and even less now since Oie decided to bounce and break three glass balls from last year, so I decided to use my mom’s ornaments.  She had two color schemes to choose from, pink or red.  I decided on the pink for Oie.   Now that Oie is two, she is a much more active participant in decorating the tree.  It made her day to go back and forth to pick an ornament and put it on the tree.

For some reason she liked to put multiple ornaments on a single branch.  The pink one on the right was her favorite, she kept calling it a balloon.

Some branches could not handle the weight of all of the ornaments.  Four is a bit much.

Some of these ornaments are really sparkly.

My favorite are the doves.

I grew up with two sisters and a brother.  We could not be trusted with anything breakable and since my mom was such a great seamstress, she made ornaments we could safely hang.

Like any proud parent, any ornaments we made as kids will be kept forever and proudly displayed every year (even if it is falling apart).  I think I made this in third grade, it’s over 25 years old!

My helper finally gave into the exhaustion of decorating the tree and couldn’t make it to the end.  She waited patiently in the beginning while I found the working lights and strung them on the tree.  The anticipation was extremely tiring.

Here is our finished tree for 2010.  I think the branch at the top needs to be cut so the angel isn’t so high up.  What do you think?

And here is the tree at night with the lights on.

There is something so peaceful to me about a lit Christmas tree in a dark room.  I could stare at it for hours.  I am convinced I need more ornaments of my own and will try to find some good sales after the holiday.  I’m thinking a white, gold, silver, color scheme.

What colors are on your Christmas tree?  I would love to see a picture.
