It was a very very rare occasion that I had junk food in my home growing up. I’m not sure how they would show up, it might have been a gift from the junk food fairy or the grocery store was giving them away, but somehow a Twinkie, bag of chips, or Devil Dog would show up in my lunch box and boy did that put a smile on my face. It’s silly to think that an artificial, processed treat could make someones day. That feeling when I was young is exactly how I felt walking into the Lulu Cake Boutique.

Why this business is featured on The Lily List:

• Homemade Twinkies and Snowballs. The cake is actually cake, the cream really buttercream, the coconut really coconut. The difference, besides not having fake chemical flavor, is the twinkie at Lulu’s is coated in chocolate. It’s very good, Hostess should consider that for their twinkie. Twinkies come in yellow cake or red velvet.
• Cupcakes. Lulu’s has a very moist cake. Topped with their silky buttercream, it’s a small taste of heaven. Actually, not that small, they are double the size of a regular cupcake. It is rumored that these are Britney Spears’ favorite cupcakes. Lulu’s is most famous for their cakes. The cake itself is delicious and the presentation is amazing. It is also rumored that there is an unspoken rivalry with La Renaissance down the street for their cakes and desserts.  Their on my list to check out.

• Order your cakes in advance and make sure you can get on their schedule. I tried to order a birthday cake for my sister’s birthday and because they were only making holiday cakes for Yom Kippur that day, they could not take my order.
