Healthy Food That Tastes Really Good from Cafe Norma, Armonk

Cafe Norma

Gourmet cuisine might be my kryptonite, but healthy food has my heart. I choose to be conscious of what I eat, I like to live a healthy lifestyle, I like the way it makes me feel. And hopefully it will eventually help me lose the last seven pounds of my pregnancy weight. Eating healthy sometimes means you don't eat the best tasting food. I've eaten my share of cardboard veggie burgers and rubber chicken. Luckily for Westchester, we can eat healthy food at Cafe Norma that tastes really … [Read more...]

Incredible Falafel from Taiim Falafel Shack, Hastings-on-Hudson

Taiim Falafel Shack

You have heard me gripe about the lack of diverse food in Westchester. So every time I find good ethnic food I feel like it's my birthday. Wednesday was my birthday because I found Taiim Falafel Shack. Everything I ate was fantastic. My husband who is scared of any type of seasoning besides salt and pepper even liked his beef shawarma sandwich. I give the Taiim Falafel Shack two thumbs up and if I had three, they would get that one also. Why this business is featured on The Lily … [Read more...]

Delicious paninis from Dante’s Italian Deli, White Plains

Dante's Italian Deli

After college, I lived in my grandparent's apartment in Chinatown for eight years before moving to Westchester. Those eight years were the best years of my life, it's hard to beat living in Manhattan in a duplex apartment and not paying any rent. Besides the amazing Chinese food, I also could walk to Little Italy and get amazing pastries, homemade pasta, and fresh mozzarella. When I walked into Dante's Italian Deli, it reminded me of the Italian grocery stores I use to visit. Italian specialties … [Read more...]

I’m in France when I eat pastries from La Renaissance, Scarsdale

La Renaissance

My second favorite country is France. I love the romance, the fashion, the food, the wine. We can find most of these things in America: (1) romance, yes, but maybe not from a Frenchman (2) fashion, yes, most all of the major French fashion houses are here, though I wish they were more accessible in Westchester (3) food, yes, we have French cuisine from michelin star chefs and French bistros, though again, I wish more were in Westchester (4) wine, yes, our wine shops allow us to drink French … [Read more...]

Your Personal Toy Consultant at Scarsdale Childs Play Ltd

Scarsdale Childs Play Ltd

I have watched my daughter receive toys, love some, and pay no mind to others. Her favorite toys right now are a Corolle doll named Colleen and a wooden cat on wheels named Cat-Cat. These toys go with her everywhere, to bed, to the car, next to her at the dinner table. Toy stores are stocked full of toy stores, some good, some bad, and it's a guessing game of what toy to buy. I usually rely heavily on the age appropriate information on the package or which toys happen to be at the front of the … [Read more...]

Italian Food from an Italian at La Bocca Ristorante, White Plains

La Bocca

La Bocca Ristorante is a cozy Italian restaurant underneath the Renaissance Business Center in White Plains. My husband and I dined on Sunday night, it was comfortable and the food was really good. I've read the reviews about the fresh ingredients, some even imported from Italy, but what I think makes the food so good is the owner, Tony Spiritoso. He came over and greeted us at the end of our meal. Tony is from Italy and started cooking in Brooklyn decades ago, then came to Westchester and has … [Read more...]

$16 Price Fixed Meal from Goldfish Oyster Bar & Restaurant, Ossining

Goldfish Oyster Bar & Restaurant

Priced fixed eating is a great option during tight economic times or anytime. There is a sense of comfort ordering from a menu and knowing the cost ahead of time. It can even help afford an additional cocktail. The Goldfish Oyster Bar & Restaurant is in a house located in what looks like a relatively-residential area. The food was good and the price you can't beat. A meal here is an affordable option for the days you don't have time to cook or unexpected date night because you need a break … [Read more...]

Cool-Kid Hangout at The Village Soccer Shop, Dobbs Ferry

The Village Soccer Shop

Soccer is a hot sport. And "hot" not in the sense of your temperature running on the field. It might be because of the dark-side edge since it is not a mainstream sport in America, or the accents from the players around the world, or the endurance needed to run on the field, or maybe FIFA has just done a really good job marketing the sport. Whatever it may be, everything associated with soccer is very cool. The Village Soccer Shop has soccer clothes, shoes, cleats, cards, all in one place. All … [Read more...]

Eyebrow Styling from Sabria Celaj at Cherylyn Salon North, Armonk

Sabria Celaj at Cherylyn Salon North, Armonk

I was born with bad eyebrows. They're sparse at the ends, not full in the middle, and it doesn't help that I don't have the "eye" for shaping them. They have been the butt of all jokes with my sisters growing up. Living with this "birth defect" has given me little motivation to keep up with their grooming, let alone having them styled. I went to see Sabria Celaj, Eyebrow Stylist at Cherylyn Salon North, received a lesson on eyebrows, and walked out with one of the best eyebrows in my … [Read more...]

Twinkies, Snowballs, and Cupcakes from Lulu Cake Boutique, Scarsdale

Lulu Cake Boutique

It was a very very rare occasion that I had junk food in my home growing up. I'm not sure how they would show up, it might have been a gift from the junk food fairy or the grocery store was giving them away, but somehow a Twinkie, bag of chips, or Devil Dog would show up in my lunch box and boy did that put a smile on my face. It's silly to think that an artificial, processed treat could make someones day. That feeling when I was young is exactly how I felt walking into the Lulu Cake … [Read more...]
